Eug?ne Goossens (1867-1958) was one of the most important conductors and composers in the twentieth century. The Oboe Concerto, Op. 45, dedicated to his brother Leon Goossens (1897-1988), abandoned the traditional three-movement concerto form, as single movement in the form presented in this concerto.

This research project focuses on the Eug?ne Goossens’ musical style as illustrated by his background, formal structure of the work, writing techniques, and performance interpretation. Then, oboists have to study composer’s writing language and practice methods in order to appropriately interpret this concerto. The writer generalizes Eug?ne Goossens’ writing style based on the analysis of the Concerto Op. 45, and provides the practice methods to overwhelm the technical difficulties.
